FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an Albanian resident or partner?

No. A foreign individual or company can own 100% of an Albanian SHPK, and the director may also be a non-resident. What you do need is a registered legal address in Albania, which we provide, and a NUIS tax number, which comes with registration.

How long does registration really take?

The National Business Center registration itself is usually one to three working days once the notarial file is complete. The realistic end-to-end figure is five to ten working days, because name reservation, notarisation and translation of your passport documents happen first.

Can a non-resident open a company bank account?

Yes, though banks apply enhanced due diligence: expect questions about the source of funds, your business model and your expected turnover. We pick the bank that fits your profile, prepare the document pack and come to the appointment with you, which is what usually decides the outcome.

When do I have to register for VAT?

VAT registration is mandatory once annual turnover passes the statutory threshold, and voluntary below it. Registering voluntarily can be worth it if your clients are VAT-registered businesses, and a mistake if you sell to consumers — we run the numbers for your case before you decide.

What reporting will my company have?

Monthly payroll and VAT filings where applicable, plus the annual profit tax return and financial statements. Deadlines are strict and penalties are automatic, which is exactly why we take the filing calendar over rather than reminding you about it.

What if I need to close the company?

Albanian liquidation is a formal procedure: a decision by the owners, a tax audit, settlement of liabilities and deregistration, typically several months. We handle it properly rather than letting the company go dormant, because an abandoned company keeps accruing obligations.
